2025 Field Course
June-July 2025 • 22 days
“Habari” from East Africa! The 2025 Anthropogeny Field Course, held in July, was a resounding success. Ten Anthropogeny Specialization students (from five UC San Diego PhD programs) participated in three weeks of educational sessions across Ethiopia and Tanzania. At the National Museum of Ethiopia, students engaged directly with leading experts responsible for some of the most significant hominin fossil discoveries. Tanzania provided bountiful opportunities to learn about the ecology and ecosystems of the Eastern Rift Valley in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, ethnography of the Hadza hunter gatherers, and comparative primatology of wild chimpanzees and red tail monkeys in Issa Valley. Stay tuned for photos, informative firsthand accounts, and our summary report of this year’s amazing Field Course.
